Is it wrong that I kind of want this? I have never seen one of these in person, and I like the looks of it. Its not great, but I'm just surprised that there was one on Detroit-Metro craigslist. Would love to know more about it. If only I had room for another car. *sigh*

Not a fan of the steelies with Mk. III wheel covers. 16V Sciroccos should have alloys.

Hmm. Would expect something like that to sell much quicker, since you never see those anywhere.

Not much of a Porsche guy, but I do like the 944. Still, though, I like this, just for its quirky factor.

I would agree with you on that. He is probably leaning towards the original side, though.

That's probably the case, honestly! I don't know, a rev-happy powertrain and a 5-speed sounds like a pretty good time to me. Plus, nobody will have any idea what it is!

lol idk if this is quirky it's really just 80s. Like a similar car was made by every make at the time. I remember my dad having a Nissan that looks very similar to this. That Nissan 200SX at the time had the extra "lol 80s"ness of having pop up lights.
The downside of this Scirocco is that it is fairly low on power, is fwd, and has no LSD. It also is very similar in design to several other marques cars. It might get you some interest from VW circles though if you are in that. However not on the levels of a VW Corrado.
The price of this VW isn't bad if you want it. It's really on par with every other car that's similar to it. However those other cars, at the same weight, are also all RWD and make more power. Other than the 944 which has the added Porsche factor. If you are looking for 80s cool factor + fun there are better options, at least IMO.
I'm just making sure you know what your options are. For the same price from the same era you can have the 944 or this:
I like 80s cars, of this type, quite a bit. So anyone wanting to have one is a plus to me. For me this particular one isn't worth it. However if you really like it get it. Cars from then are worth saving.

Right. But originally, a 16V Scirocco came with alloys, not wheel covers from the next year (1993).

I meant quirky by today's standards. By 80's standards, its kinda bland. While the Scirocco might be a bit low on power, it has to be a fun car to drive. That 16v is peppy and rev-happy, and the 5-Speed improves the whole experience.
As for buying it, I would love to, but I can't. Already have one 80's classic sucking my wallet dry :D That picture of the Starion reminded me of how cool those were though.

I would absolutely love to, but the parents already don't like me having 2 cars. Can't really fit in 3 :D I would totally DD that thing everyday, if I could.

I remember, with the Starion, my neighbor had one back then. It had rear window louvers too and he always listened to Megadeth and other period metal like that and was a drummer in some local band. As a kid I thought he was the coolest person ever. That car has probably the most epic fender flares ever to hit US shores next to BMW 1M.

That's just awesome. Wish my neighbors had amazing cars like that. They are definitely up there on the greatest fender flares list, for sure!

Yep, indeed I do. One I bought, the other was something I inherited.
Bought this a year ago. 1986 Z51 'Vette. Picked it up for $5800, and I've probably put around $1300 into it after I bought it. It doesn't get out much, since I'm so worried about what the idiots at my high school would do to it. But I drive it at least 1-2 times a week. It is ridiculously pampered, and is stored in the winter.
In the winter, this is my car. 2002 Taurus SE. My grandmother left it to me when she passed away.

Thank you! Glad the people here on Oppo like them, as I don't get many compliments on either of them. I don't know, that 944 in your profile picture looks pretty sweet. I'm assuming it's yours? If so, sweet :D

My dad used to have a '98 Taurus when I was in preschool and while the C4 isn't my favorite Vette, I don't hate it at all, so 80s.
And yes to 944 My car #3! Well kinda sorta 2.5-3.5 I'm not sure how to explain it. :p

Yeah, my grandmother bought it new. She treated it well, and it is a good car to have for the winter. As for the 'Vette, I've always dreamed of having one, so I'm pretty satisfied. Its not the greatest 'Vette of all time, but it is much better car than everyone portrays it as.
And cool! I'm not a huge Porsche guy, but I love the 944. I think its really kind of underrated. What do you mean by 2.5-3.5? :D
